Most important risk factors

Having a home with clean air is especially important”

The importance of creating sustainable buildings and spaces

To achieve clean air we have to pay special attention to the materials, both those of construction and those of other decorative or use elements.

Combustion products

Heating appliances, stoves, stoves, ovens, etc., and even tobacco smoke, can release various pollutants, such as carbon monoxide, nitrogen and sulfur oxides, formaldehyde, benzopyrene and particulate matter (PM). Although cleaner fuels are increasingly being sought inside buildings, very harmful fuels are still used in more than half of the world’s homes.

Construction materials and furniture

The materials with which most buildings are built contain polluting elements that degrade and break down into smaller particles, capable of reaching the lungs. Some of them are glass fibers and asbestos. The same happens with the materials used to manufacture furniture, which usually contain a multitude of toxins, such as formaldehyde (present in plywood varnishes, panels, chipboard…), benzene (plastics, paints…) or toluene (solvent …).

    Flame retardants

Many studies report that these substances, present in numerous electronic equipment, do not provide greater safety against fires and do represent a public health problem, since they are omnipresent and highly cumulative.

These retardants have also been studied as toxic chemicals that increase the risk of death from smoke inhalation in fires.

Many elements that are commonly used in our infrastructures and everyday objects are harmful to our health.”

    Risk factor’s

    • Detrimental insulation
    • Alternating electric fields
    • Alternating magnetic fields
    • Electromagnetic waves
    • Continuous magnetic fields
    • Radioactivity
    • Geological alterations

    Harmful insulation

A large number of the insulation systems used in construction are the cause of multiple diseases due to the substances they give off.

For example, expanded polystyrene insulation and urea-formaldehyde foam, because in some cases they can release a very worrying volatile compound: formaldehyde. The same can happen with rock wool, which can also release fibers.

      Alternating magnetic fields

Magnetic fields are generated by electrical installations, motors, transformers, high medium and low voltage distribution lines that run through the streets and sidewalks, some electrical appliances such as ovens, refrigerators, electric stoves, radio alarm clocks, etc.

Alternating magnetic fields were classified by the WHO, in 2002, in group 2B as a possible human carcinogen, based on scientific evidence linking residential exposure with increases in cases of childhood leukemia. Many researchers also link them to multiple degenerative diseases, exposure to magnetic fields has been linked to Alzheimer’s and other neurodegenerative diseases.

      Electromagnetic waves

Electromagnetic waves are normally generated through mobile telephone devices and antennas, mobile data communication, WiFi, WiMax, DECT cordless telephones, digital terrestrial television (DTT), radiotelephony with shared resources, radars, etc.

Citizens are increasingly surrounded by electromagnetic pollution due to the progressive technification of society. The use of Wi-Fi and mobile phones affects the health of citizens with high levels of residence. They cause a multitude of diseases related to Central Sensitivity Syndrome, new pathologies that probably have the same origin: electrohypersensitive and their symptoms coincide with other pathologies such as fibromyalgia, fatigue, short-term memory loss, lack of concentration, itchy eyes, tinnitus, stiffness muscle, lack of libido, nervousness, thyroid disorders…

        Continuous magnetic fields

Continuous magnetic fields are generated in metal parts of beds, mattresses, furniture, equipment, beams and other ferromagnetic elements used in construction.

        Radiactividad. HDH Instituion.

        Radioactivity

Radioactivity inside buildings comes mainly from the land and from certain construction or decoration materials, such as basalt or granite, some ceramics and concrete, and certain types of stoneware.

        Alteraciones geológicas. HDH Institution

        Geological alterations

Geological alterations cause distortions in the Earth’s magnetic field. The level of environmental radioactivity and the natural magnetic field increase, decrease or are altered by the presence of groundwater, geological faults, ground fractures, among others.

        Common sources of radiation

Next we will analyze some of the most common sources of radiation and how they can affect our health.

        RADIATION SOURCES

        • Appliances and building wiring.
        • Mobile phone towers
        • Wi-Fi routers
        • Bluetooth devices
        • Baby monitors
        • High voltage transmission and power lines.
        • Solar panel inverters
        • Mobile phones
        • Wireless technology
        • Smart meters
        • Radioactivity

        DEVELOPED DISEASES

        • Nervous system: Stress, disturbances, poor night rest
        • Endocrine System: Cell Abnormalities
        • Lymphatic system: Leukemia, cancer, immune weakening
        • Excretory system: Weakening of the urinary system
        • Reproductive system: Abortions, malformations, infertility, decreased libido.
        • Cardiovascular system: Cardiac weakening, myocardial infarction.
